Hi Quilty Girls!
Happy Spring! It seems that Spring really has arrived here in the states...and maybe it will even stay awhile!
Welcome to all our new Quilty Girls! We are delighted to have you join us.
Things a Mom Just Shouldn't Have to Say!
scissors??
Here's a little something that I just never thought I would need to say to a child: "Get those scissors out of your nose!" Yes, you read that right. It's almost like we are simply a lump of clay at birth with not a stitch of common sense in our whole head! The child that I was speaking to was 7-years-old!!
But here's the best part of the story. Later in the day, I overheard another of my children ask the "Scissor Child" about the incident..."So why were you poking scissors up your nose?"
To which Scissor Child quickly responded, "Because Mom told me to stop picking my nose with my fingers."
So there! It's all completely understandable...or NOT! I guess I should be thankful that he was actually listening when I told him to stop picking his nose...I just never knew that I had to list all the possible "tools" that he might substitute to get the job done!
Please God, help all the Moms out there to safely navigate their children through this day.
Home Page Happenings
scrap happy
On the Home Page this month, you'll find a really bright string quilt that I made with encouragement from the Heartstrings group. Heartstrings focuses on making great quilts out of scraps and donating them to charity! Needless to say, the group is lots of fun.
Also on the Home Page you'll find my thoughts on Ugly Fabric.
And the Winner is...
drum roll please!
Congratulations to Barbara Douglas of Midland, Michigan! Barbara won this month's Real Women Quilt drawing and gets a RWQ tote bag!
The Tips and Humor page is filled with lots of helpful Quilty Girl suggestions regarding what to do when you get stuck in a quilting project. I think you'll enjoy the assortment of remedies!
Now I want to know about your fabric shopping methods. Do you have a method or just madness??
I used to buy fabric EVERY month (yes, I do mean EVERY month...without fail!) Now I have a stash that I thoroughly enjoy working from. I do still buy fabric on ocassion, but not nearly as often as before. I have found that some fabrics speak so loudly that they can't be resisted, and others have been known to throw themselves right off the shelf and into my "needy" arms. Yes, I know these particular fabrics well-- the "screamers" and the "jumpers". Many of them live in my stash today.
So now for a few questions to get you thinking:
Do you have fun when you shop for fabric or does it make you feel guilty?
Do all the fabric choices at the quilt shop overwhelm you or spark your creativity?
Do you buy fabric with cash or are you accumulating debt? (ouch!)
Do you make better fabric choices with friends along or when you shop solo?
How do you decide how much of a particular fabric to buy?
What size pieces do you find most useful in your stash?
I
f you would like to share about this or any of the Tips & Humor page topics, please send me an email and we'll enter you in the next RWQ drawing. Thanks.
Meet Miss May!

What's New?
good stuff, free shipping and a picture, too
Well just in case you are in need of a Christmas fix, we just received a new line from Moda and 3 Sisters called Roman Holiday. It has some really pretty colors in it and truly doesn't have to just be used for holiday quilts. Right now we have Jelly Rolls and 5" Squares. Yardage should be in soon.
We have a new book in stock called Nickel Quilts. I know it's not a new release, but sometimes I'm slow to catch on. Now that I've got this book, I LOVE it!! It's very inspiring and the patterns are designed around 5" squares (or 4" or 6"!) So if you've been wondering what to do with our packs of 5" squares--this book is full of ideas! We've priced this one so that everyone can get a copy!
We just started a page in our store with Pam's Favorites. Nothing really earth shattering in there...just my picks for needles and such...plus rotary cutter blades (which I always seem to need!)
We are offering FREE SHIPPING this month for orders over $100 (in US only) at least until the postal rate change.
We can now accept your credit card without going thru Paypal. Paypal will still be available on our store...But if you prefer not to use it, you can call in your card info to us at: 615-591-8587.
We have finally updated the About Us page on the website, so now you can see what my "natural" color looks like...and better than that, you can see Elizabeth, too!
What's On Sale?
Summer in the City yardage!
We just received yardage from the funky new Summer in the City collection and we've marked it down for May!! Just $6.50 per yard! Enjoy.
We've added some more fabric to the Bargain Bin this week. I won't give any specifics since last month I told you about the Funky Monkey fabric and it sold out before most of you even opened the newsletter! All I can say is Hurry so you don't miss out!
Great Books to Read!
perfect for when you're worn out from quilting!
I told you last month about Freckles by Gene Stratton-Porter. Well some of you wrote in to encourage me to read the next book in the series, and I'm so glad I did! The follow-up to Freckles is called The Girl of the Limberlost and it is positively delightful. In fact, these books are just too good for my puny vocabulary to give justice to. You've just got to read them and then pass them onto a special girlfriend!
These links go to Amazon.
So Long, For Now...
get back to quilting!!
That's it for this newsletter. If you've enjoyed it, please pass it on to all the "Quilties" in your life.
And as always...Thanks for being so supportive of me and this website. It's a joy to serve you! Your purchases from the Real Women Quilt store are greatly appreciated...they help keep this website and newsletter up and running. Thanks!!
